PASH Conference 2014

PASH was a two day Regional Sexual Health Conference during Youth Week 2014 for Young People between the ages of 14 and 24, also for parents, teachers, GP’s, Health Professionals, journalists and the broader community who want to work towards improved sexual health for Young People.

The conference was youth led by PEEPs and Byron Youth Theater targeting Young People from Tweed Heads to Grafton and west to Woodenbong and Bonalbo.  It was programmed by a steering committee of local Young People, HARP specialists and youth workers.

PASH 2014 featured an extensive and engaging program of workshops, talks, multimedia and arts based platforms to develop healthy behaviours
around issues of sex, sexuality, sexual health,
body image, bullying, homophobia, consent
and healthy sexual boundaries.

The conference had a strong focus to support Young People who are marginalized such as young Aboriginal People, same sex attracted and gender diverse young people who are priority populations for sexual health services but are often isolated.
 
Skills and resilience around racism, gender and sexuality based bullying were explored and the celebration of all cultures, sexual identities and genders was a continuous theme through the Conference and training programs.

PASH 2014 valued and engaged parents, teachers, youth workers, health professionals, GPs and community leaders with a view to improve sexual health and associated services for Young People. Education and skills development for adults was a major element of PASH 2014 so that Young People’s needs were better understood and supported by the broader, adult – run society.
